An Official Town Board

Appointed by the Select Board, the Historical Commission is responsible for the 

preservation, protection and development of the historical and archaeological assets of the town.* 

 Berlin’s Historical Commission has five members and elects a Chair and Clerk annually in June 

as well as a representative to the Community Preservation Act Committee. Members include: June Miller, Barry Eager, Janet Woodward, Ellie Bergen (and not shown Lucy Ayers).

Our Role

  • Planning community wide historic preservation 
  • Overseeing Berlin's historical town collection 
  • Preserving. Reviews requests to demolish buildings that are fifty + years old through the Demolition Delay By-law.**
  • Managing Bullard House restoration
  • Communicating town's rich historical past

Berlin's Historical Collection

The Commission confirms the election of a Custodian from the Berlin Art and Historical Society. The Custodian is assisted by the Society’s Custodial Committee and, currently, by a Senior Workoff employee who helps prepare donated items for accessioning. Our Curatorial Building at 12 Woodward Avenue (behind the Bullard House)  is open Wednesday afternoons 2:00-4:00 pm or can be visited by appointment. 

Meetings

The Commission schedules regular monthly meetings on second Friday mornings. These are open meetings and are conducted either in person or virtually. Agendas, minutes and the meeting schedule and location are posted on the www.mytowngovernment website. Additional meetings are scheduled as needed.
